“As we work to create light for others, we naturally light our own way.”
As individuals with time, talents and treasures, Kappas first support our sisters; second, we participate in local service projects; and third, we serve the greater good.
Our chapter women support elementary schools, Relay for Life, Make-A-Wish, Dance Marathon, the Big Event and the Alzheimer's Association to name a few. Chapter fundraising events in the past years have supported causes such as the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, the Emma Strong Foundation and Educate Uganda just to name a few.
Once a semester, we hold a large Philanthropy event for the students of the University of Nebraska, friends, and family to attend. This past spring we held our first ever, Mac & Keys philanthropy event. The event featured food, music, and fun! The event was a huge success and all the proceeds raised went to The Alzheimers Association, an association supporting research and care. We look forward to our philanthropies, as we get to vote each semester on where we donate our funds.
Kappa's National Philanthropy
Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), our official sorority's philanthropic partner, has been supported through the donation of thousands of books and volunteer hours to Boys and Girls Clubs, elementary schools and hospitals.
In Lincoln, we support the program through tutoring programs, financial donations, and volunteering at local schools. This semester, we had multiple RIF events at elementary schools. We were able to team up with a classroom and donate books so that each student had their own book to take home. We also volunteered on UNL's East Campus, and made book packages to send out to students all throughout Nebraska.
